About Us
Nordic Fish Exports is a limited liability company registered in Tórshavn, Faroe Islands, that specializes in export insights, market access, and advanced data visualization. The entity navigates within the industry of technological and analytical services by offering interactive visualizations and tables for Nordic fish products in international markets. This is mainly through the flagship platform NordicFishView, which is a point-and-click solution offering interactive and filter-driven visualizations within seconds. Furthermore, the company has a consulting branch that carries out consulting tasks for the industry. This typically includes specific, nuanced, and ad hoc business problems within export and market access.
The company was established by Jákup and Steffan, both of whom share a Faroese background. Like our Nordic neighbours in Norway, Iceland, and Greenland, the Faroe Islands are deeply connected to the fishing and aquaculture industries that have long sustained life in the North Atlantic. Fittingly, it was a seminar about mackerel and herring negotiations in the North Atlantic that served as the forum where the founders first met. Although the founders have hands-on experience in the industry, it is especially their shared and playful engagement with the complexity of the international fish trade that shapes the services of Nordic Fish Exports. Furthermore, Jákup and Steffan’s differing backgrounds in International Business/Relations and Computer Science bring additional perspective, value, and nuance to the traditional fishing sectors of the Nordics.

Jákup Holm Johannesen
Founder / CEO
Jákup holds a bachelor’s degree in International Business and Politics from Copenhagen Business School and is stud. master’s in Business Economics and Auditing. Jákup has a firm background in international business/relations, having worked with Greenlandic and Arctic Council diplomacy at the Greenlandic Representation in Denmark. Diplomatic work was mostly to represent the interests of Greenland and its industries, which mainly consist of established fish exporters, especially within the species cold water shrimp, Greenland halibut, and cod. Furthermore, Jákup has worked as an auditor at Deloitte, auditing listed international businesses within the Financial Services Industry. Jákup has extensive hands-on experience in the Faroese aquaculture industry spanning across 6+ years. Primarily within salmon farming in the harsh Faroese fjords, but also within smolt production. These experiences, coupled with a natural and playful interest in international business and fish trade, bring a joyful, positive confidence behind the services provided by Nordic Fish Exports.

Steffan Kunoy
Founder / CTO
Steffan holds a master’s degree in Computer Science and Engineering from the Technical University of Denmark, with a focus on software engineering and data-driven problem solving. Across roles at Deloitte, cVation and Netcompany, Steffan has worked hands-on with cloud-based solutions, large-scale system development, and the implementation of analytical tools within finance, insurance, and public-sector platforms. Alongside this, Steffan has cultivated a continuous interest in data visualization and analytics, from constructing simulation models for pension portfolios to building Power BI dashboards and monitoring real-time EV telemetry data. These experiences, paired with a natural curiosity and a thoughtful, methodical approach to complex technical challenges, bring precision, clarity, and an engaged enthusiasm for transforming data into meaningful insight.

Kaj Leo Holm Johannesen
Senior Advisor
Kaj Leo was the Prime Minister of the Faroe Islands from 2008-2015, Head of Foreign Affairs from 2011-2015, and Health Minister from 2019-2022. Kaj Leo led the Faroes through the Financial Crisis of 2008 and the mackerel dispute with the EU in 2013-2014, which was settled after involving the dispute settlement body of the World Trade Organization. Kaj Leo pioneered the strategy of diversifying and expanding available markets for Faroese fish products and signed the free trade agreement with Turkey. Outside of politics, Kaj Leo has worked for close to 25 years in the fisheries sector within sales, export, strategy, longline fisheries, and leadership. Kaj Leo was sales manager at the major Faroese cooperative, Faroe Seafood, from 1989-1995, responsible for major industrial clients in Germany and France within fresh and frozen fish products. Kaj Leo built the sales division at the major fish exporter P/F Kósin from 1995-1997 before co-founding the fish trading company FAREX in 1998. After rotating away from politics in 2026, Kaj Leo was keen on returning to the fisheries sector, where his roots go deep. As Senior Advisor, Kaj Leo’s substantial experience in fish export, leadership, strategy, and organization will help bolster all aspects of Nordic Fish Exports.
